Plaza Art Fair

I went to the annual Plaza Art Fair yesterday afternoon. The weather couldn't be any better, and the whole area was so packed, it took me 40 minutes to park my car. But it was all worth it. There were so many artists' works I would love to collect, but due to my budget, I ended up spending only about $125.

Here are what I got: a totally cute and goofy robot named Edgeworth made by local artist Anthony Pack using found objects (I also bought one of Anthony's artwork last year)...

... and a limited edition of acrylic and pencil on canvas painting by Chicago-based artist Gabe Lanza. The artwork I bought is actually connected to a special art project called project PARTIVATION which Gabe will be posting more about on his blog after the art fair is finished).

Keepon

My co-worker showed me this... This is the coolest and cutest robot I've ever seen!! Its name is Keepon and it has soft rubber skin, two cameras in its eyes, and a microphone in its nose. Keepon is built by Hideki Kozima as a nonverbal robot to interact with children. It is, however, not commercially available at this point. The BeatBots website has more information and another great film about Keepon. Check it out! So adorable!

Anthropology Sign

Yesterday I went to the monthly lunch time treasure hunt with my friends. I wasn't really planning on buying anything, but I found this screen printed wooden sign by Anthropology (I remember seeing it in the store long long time ago and wanted it, but it was too expensive for me). Actually, the original price tag was still on and it was $94... I got it for $39!!! It is so cute! I don't mind it's actually a mass produced product cause it is very well done. Can't wait to put it up.

Jenny Mendes

This morning I got a postcard from artist Jenny Mendes, reminding me that she will be at the annual Plaza Art Fair which is one of my favorite event every year... I am so excited! Jenny is one of my favorite artist, and some of her artworks are my most treasured purchase from the art fair throughout the years. Usually I don't have a huge budget, but her cute little ceramic bowls or gorgeous tiles with intricate yet naive style line works are still very affordable. I am excited to see what she will bring to this year's Plaza Art Fair which is scheduled for September 21st,22nd & 23rd.
